During our season, from July 1-October 31, we generally practice 3 days per week, except for race weeks when Thursday practice is cancelled. On Thursdays, we practice at a local city park on a large grass field. These practices consist of:
Learn and practice essential mountain bike skills.
Play on the bike games - like soccer, zombie tag, limbo, and many more!
Ride a short course that reinforces skills and helps us work on our fitness and endurance.
Hold mock, fun "races" that reinforce team building and fitness.
On Saturdays we ride at a local mouintain bike trail. All athletes are assigned to a ride group that they will generally stay with the entire season. Ride groups are based on age, skill, experience and fitness.
On Tuesday we have an optional trail ride at Cliff Cave Park.
From April 1-June 30, we hold some pre-season events, like try-it-outs (not try outs!), skills clinics, gear checks, and a family pizza party. Pre-season events are designed to for new athletes to try out the team to find out if it's a good fit, learn some basic skills, and get to know coaches and each other.
